Inner Home: Finding meaning and fulfilling purpose in service to community and society.
I believe it’s essential for us, both the current and future generations, to actively participate in protecting and restoring the critical ecosystems in our territory. We raise our voices and advocate for the environment, following the traditions and practices of our ancestors.
Local Home: Renewing community and culture through integral purpose-based initiatives/livelihoods.
Our goal is to protect and restore the critical ecosystems within our territory. This process connects us with our ancestral practices and cultural heritage, allowing us to honor and continue their legacy.
Earth Home is: Fuelling systems change and collectively co-creating ‘home on Earth’.
We establish "Dzomo la Mupo" (Voices of Mupo) as a significant aspect of our work in various areas. This creates a structured and organized effort to amplify our voices in advocating for environmental protection and restoration.
Short Profile
Mupo, or the universe, is the oxygen, if we cut down the trees we can’t breathe the fresh air. Even the grasses can die, and our animals can not find where they can graze. If we cut down the trees, even we are going to die. Mupo is our life. Dzomo la Mupo work to preserve and revive cultural diversity in South Africa. Based in Venda in Limpopo, S.A. The organization accompanies local communities in ecological governance by reviving indigenous seeds, facilitating and encouraging intergenerational learning, and rebuilding confidence in the value of indigenous knowledge systems.
Integral Model to Whole-Systems Change
Innovation
The organization is driven by three innovative aims: conserving ecosystem services by protecting indigenous forests, rivers, wetlands, and sacred sites through tree nurseries; preserving and recuperating indigenous knowledge systems by achieving food sovereignty through protecting local seeds and reviving traditional farming practices; and transferring indigenous knowledge of cultural biodiversity through intergenerational learning in schools, engaging elders, teachers, curriculum advisors, and academic research students. This holistic approach integrates ecological restoration, cultural preservation, and educational initiatives to enhance ecosystem resilience and empower communities to maintain their cultural heritage and traditional practices.
